Non-RAID/JBOD controllers often do not have this limitation (for example, the SAS 6/iR can see larger than 2TB disks when NOT configured in RAID), but the PERC 6 does not support non-RAID, so it is subject to the limitations of the processor and firmware.

In order to create partitions of any size, the full disk capacity must first be recognized and usable, and since the controller can't see beyond 2TB, there would not be disk space available for 2x2TB partitions. Or even no cost option of some kind of software overlay (not sure if WD offers a compatibility mode like they used to have a jumper for in the post 137gb days). but I don't have $700 to spend (times 2 because we have two of these working R200's we'd like to re-purpose). So If I can find a card under $120 or use the onboard motherboard sata headers, I could do that. It has 4GB RAM and 64-bit processor and dual 1GB nics I can team. Reason we want to re-purpose the R200 is because it works. I've checked other chassis like synology and qnap for these 4TB drives, but I would be investing around $1200 for one of those chassis. I thought possibly I could partition a 4TB drive as 2 x 2TB partitions and then use software raid across the volumes to make it appear as one big disk - again its just holding archives not serving departmental data.

Then there was the 137gb barrier again you could sometimes put in a cheap card or bios update to get that lifted to 2tb. Then there was a 2gb barrier that some bios updates lifted that to 8gb.

Years ago you could put overlay software to get an old PC to recognize more than 512mb. but in order of the mathmatical routines, tables and addressing scheme that the controller executes in its memory to talk to the drive. I wouldn't expect it to change SATAI to SATAII or SATAIII.

What should be the best configuration of CPU Units, CPU Cores and CPU % to guarantee best performace of each created VPS?
